Easy Pepper Steak

October 22, 2016 By Mihaela K. Sebrek Leave a Comment

Transport your taste buds to the Orient with this quick-cooking steak and bell peppers in a flavorful sauce.

This pepper steak is so quick, easy and delicious, you can make it right at home–in less than 30 minutes. There’s nothing more tasty and easy than pepper steak.

Easy Pepper Steak

This is definitely No.1 steak recipe in our household.
I made it also with veal, since true steak is not so accessible (or costs a fortune) here in Croatia, since we have different kind of cow breed here, so, wherever I go to Austria, I buy at least 4 pounds, so I’m settled for 1-2 month.

Ingredients

FOR MARINADE:

  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon worcester sauce
  • 1 teaspoon red wine vinegar
  • 1/2 teaspoon corn starch
  • 1/2 teaspoon granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon sesame oil

FOR PEPPER STEAK:

  • 500 grams 1 poundsteak (sirloin, flank),cut diagonally across the grain into thin strips
  • 2 bell peppers thinly sliced (I used 1 red, 1/2 yellow and 1/2 green)
  • 1 scallion cut lenghtwise, into 1 inch pieces, white and green pieces separated
  • 1 small onion quartered
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 1 tablespoon freshly grated ginger
  • 3 tablepoons canola/vegetable oil divided
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • dash of freshly grated pepper

Instructions

MARINADE:

  • Add all marinade ingredients to a large bowl and stir to combine. Add the sliced steak, and toss in the marinade. Cover and refrigerate for at least 15 minutes.

PEPPER STEAK:

  • Heat 2 tablepoon oil in a large pan over medium high heat. With a slotted spoon remove the steak from the marinade (reserve the marinade) and fry until browned on both sides, about 3-4 minutes. Transfer to a plate.
  • Add the remaining 1 tablespoon oil to the pan, add garlic, ginger and saute for 1 minute. Add onion, peppers and white parts of scallion, saute for 4-5 minutes. Add browned meat, green parts of scallion, 1 tablespoon soy sauce, salt and pepper and reserved marinade to the skillet, stir well and cook for 1 minute.
  • Serve over rice, quinoa or chinese noodles.
